things-to-love-about-austin.jpgAustin and the surrounding Texas suburbs are experiencing rapid population growth as people flock to this lovely city. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a foodie or a sports lover, the area has so much to offer. Here are our top six reasons to love Austin.

1. Nature and Parks

Round Rock, Lakeline, and the rest of the Austin area are full of nature lovers. Whether you're a hiker, a biker or birder, there are so many beautiful outdoor places to explore. Lady Bird Lake Trail is perfect for walking or cycling on a mild spring day, and Zilker Metropolitan Park features a beautiful pond where you'll see fish, birds and other wildlife. You can even climb up Mount Bonnell and look down over the Colorado River.

2. The Restaurant Scene

New restaurants are popping up every day in and around Austin. You'll find everything from specialty grilled cheese shops to taco stands. The food truck scene is also booming, allowing you to try local specialties wherever you may be. If you're a vegetarian or vegan, or are following a gluten-free diet, you're in luck. Many new restaurants are catering to specialty diets and dietary restrictions.

3. Theaters and Cinemas

If you're a film fanatic, you have to check out Violet Crown Cinema, where independent and international films are screened regularly. Theater lovers will also enjoy a trip to The Paramount Theater, which was established in 1915 and still presents everything from comedy shows to classic movies.

4. Rich History

Did you know that the Round Rock Historic Commercial District is actually on the National Register of Historic Places? The buildings along the 100 and 200 blocks on Main Street were built in the late 1800s, just after the railroad came to town. Walk down the street, and you'll discover The Old Broom Factory, Round Rock Mercantile, and more.

5. Awesome Artists

Austin is a very artistic city, attracting artists and crafters from all over the world. You'll find numerous art galleries and shops, from Austin Art Garage to Art Space. Decorate your home with the work of these creative folks, or just chat with them about their creations. There are always interesting creators at local fairs, festivals, and craft shows, too.

6. Great Weather

You get to enjoy all these great activities while basking in Austin’s beautiful weather year-round. Even in January, the temperatures rarely fall below 50 degrees, and you never have to worry about snow! July and August typically bring temperatures in the 90s, but it's not overly humid, so it's easy to keep comfortable.
