Inexpensive Apartment Security TipsAt Springs, your comfort and security is our main concern. Our luxury apartment homes are designed and built for safety and privacy, while our on-site management and maintenance teams provide several sets of observant eyes at all times.

You can be proactive about security without spending a lot of time or money. Here are the best tips we've found for protecting your apartment and possessions.

1. Purchase a Safe

You don't need a bank vault to secure your valuables. Personal safes come in a variety of styles and sizes, from cabinet-type to "diversion" safes that masquerade as household items such as books and soda cans.

2. Lock Doors and Windows

This might sound like a no-brainer, but burglars often gain entry through an unlocked door or window. For an added measure of security, invest in some small, inexpensive slide stops or braces for windows and sliding glass doors.

3. Turn Up the Volume

Burglars aren't always fooled by inside lights, but many have said that they almost always pass on a home with sounds of life. When you go out, leave a TV or radio on just loud enough to serve as a deterrent.

4. Organize a "Neighborhood Watch"

There's safety in numbers. Why not get together with your neighbors and organize a group to keep an eye on happenings around your area?

Set up teams of two or three people and take turns making rounds in the evening and on weekends. It can also give you peace of mind to know that others are watching out for you when you go out of town.

5. No Social Media

When you're on vacation or away on a business trip, be cautious about posting pictures or other information that can draw attention to the fact that you're not at home. Wait until you return to share them.

6. Just Say No

Unfortunately, deception crimes have become more common. They involve people who pose as utility workers or other repair personnel in an attempt to gain access to your home.

  • Never allow anyone to enter if you're not expecting them.
  • Even if it seems to be a legitimate visit, insist on seeing ID and call the corresponding agency to confirm.

7. Install a Security System

If you like the idea of having your own personal security system, you don't have to invest in a pricey subscription service. Thanks to modern technology, there is a wide variety of wireless security systems and cameras that are inexpensive and require minimal set-up.
