With only 43 days left until Christmas, it’s about time to start getting into the holiday spirit. It won’t be long until we start hearing non-stop Christmas music on the radio (if we haven’t already…), and before you know it, you’ll already be behind on your holiday shopping. To help put you in the holiday mood – and let you start planning your busy holiday schedule – we found 4 local events that will surely get you excited for the holidays. It’s time to deck the halls, stuff the stockings, and grab the kids to check out these fun holiday events in Corpus Christi:
For the past 5 years, the Junior League of Corpus Christi, H-E-B, and the Art Museum of South Texas have teamed up to present the Christmas Around the World Christmas Tree Forest contest. Each year, local schools are invited to select a country, conduct research, create decorations, and decorate a Christmas tree in a way that reflects the culture of their chosen country. From there, the trees are brought to the Museum where visitors can learn more about each country and vote on their favorite. In the end, the top 3 trees are awarded prizes and all trees are donated to underserved families in the Corpus Christi area. The exhibit is open during normal museum hours, so make sure you check it out before voting ends!
This year, for the 33rd Annual Harbor Lights Festival, Bayfront Marina will be transformed into a Jingle Bell Rock wonderland. The holiday fun begins with the AEP Texas Children’s parade and continues with the Children’s Gift of Love Giveaway, inflatable games, cookie decorating, and much more. Once the sun goes down, Santa Claus himself will help light the Tree of Lights and the Illuminated Boat Parade will begin. You definitely don’t want to miss this year’s event, and you can find all the details on their website above.
Back by popular demand, Michael Martin Murphey returns for his 10th Cowboy Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 7th at 7:30 pm. Murphey first took this travelling Cowboy Christmas show on the road more than 20 years ago, and has since grown a reputation as one of the can’t-miss shows of the holiday season. Tickets start at $20 each and can be purchased online here.
If your idea of getting into the holiday spirit involves getting active, then this is the perfect event for you. The Jingle All The Way 5K is a fun, holiday-themed run/walk with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Corpus Christi. In addition to the 5K race, there will be a 1K Kid’s Run for anyone 18 and under, as well as free laser tag and photo opportunities with Santa. Both races will be chip timed for accuracy, and ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate. Registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $10 for the Kid’s Run, and you can sign up online using the website link above.
