Nowadays, there’s an entire beer drinking subculture devoted to finding the best possible craft brews. Whether this means home brewing a batch yourself or sampling as many of the 3,000+ breweries across the United States as possible, beer drinkers today have developed a certain level of intelligence and sophistication that’s comparable to your typical wine connoisseur.

Luckily for residents in Corpus Christi, you don’t have to travel all the way to the Spoetzl Brewery (Shiner Bock) in Shiner to find some excellent craft brews. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the city!


1. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse

Not to be confused with B&J’s Pizza, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse has been brewing up award-winning beers for several years now, including several winners at the World Beer Cup. And we’re not just talking about 4 or 5 different beers, BJ’s offers up to 23 different homebrews on tap! From their Piranha® Pale Ale to Harvest Hefewiezen®, BJ’s is bound to offer their unique variation on your favorite stouts, porters, lagers, ales, and more. But don’t just stop in for the beer though! Make sure your grab a plate of their delicious food while you’re there as well.


2. Railroad Seafood Station Brewing Co.

One of Corpus Christi’s newest additions to the microbrewery scene is Railroad Seafood Station Brewing Co. After only serving food for the past 6 years, owners at the restaurant decided to cash in on their 5+ years of homebrewing experience and added brewery operations to the restaurant’s repertoire. Today, they offer a variety of unique and delicious homebrews for beer snobs to enjoy, including the Habenero Blonde, Hofbrau Bock, and Fuzzy Peach Wheat. 3. Port Aransas Brewing Company

Located approximately 40 minutes from our apartment complex in Port Aransas lies the Port Aransas Brewing Company. Opened in June 2008 to fill the microbrewery void in the area, the brewing company has been a hit since Day 1. Today, they offer 7 traditional brews, plus several special seasonal concoctions. Some of their most popular beers include their Strikezone Stout, Port Aransas Pop Pilsner, and Island Pale Ale. While you’re there, don’t forget to try their award-winning Stopher Burger – one of the 50 best burgers in the state according to Texas Monthly magazine.


4. Lazy Beach Brewing

Started by a group of friends in September of 2010, Lazy Beach Brewing is a small-batch brewery in Corpus Christi that’s been concocting some delicious brews for several local bars. And though they don’t offer any tours, make sure you try their Lazy Beach Blonde and Texas Bock. Hurry though! Supply can be limited.
