Banish the Winter Blues at 6 Top Corpus Christi Events

Winter_Events_CC.jpgAfter the excitement of the holidays, are you looking for something to liven up the winter doldrums? The fun is still happening around Corpus Christi, with its full slate of entertaining social events.

Here are six great upcoming activities that we're marking on our calendar. Will we see you there?

1. Stage Door Canteen
Friday, February 12
USS Lexington Museum

A journey back in time to the canteen shows of WWII that provided a bit of home to military personnel around the world. The 23rd annual staging of this popular event features the USS Lexington Big Band Orchestra backing several vocalists who will perform songs of the era. Tickets are $35 each or $60 for a couple and must be purchased in advance.

2. Steve Trevino and Jesus Trejo
Friday, February 12 - Sunday, February 14
Chuckles Comedy Club

Share some laughs with your Valentine at one of the weekend shows featuring rising comedian Steve Trevino, who has performed alongside top acts like Jay Mohr and Tommy Chong. Jesus Trejo will be the opening act. Shows begin at 8 p.m., with additional 10 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door, with prices going to $30 and $35 for Sunday’s Valentine's Day show. 

3. Valentine's Day Dinner and Dance
Saturday, February 13
Emerald Beach Hotel

Set the stage for a romantic holiday at the annual fundraiser to support the Texas Jazz Festival. Dinner will be served from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. while vocal duo Reflections performs favorite songs from artists like Frank Sinatra and Josh Groban. Afterwards, enjoy the R&B sounds of PM Soul. Tickets are $60 in advance and $65 at the door.

4. Corpus Christi Idol
Friday, February 19 - Sunday, February 21
Food Court at LaPalmera

Are you a rock star in the shower? Show off your chops at the auditions for Corpus Christi Idol. A Junior competition will also be held for singers ages 12 and younger. There is a $10 entry fee, and all singing is done a cappella. Finales will be held beginning Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

5. Whooping Crane Festival
Thursday, February 25 - Sunday, February 28
PortAransas

Did you know that the Coastal Bend is home to the last naturally occurring population of whooping cranes in the world? Get an up-close view of these majestic birds and others at the 20th annual festival. Activities include boat tours of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, interactive workshops and seminars, and guided field trips.

6. Cookies and Corks
Saturday, February 27
House of Rock

At this unique wine tasting, held at one of Corpus Christi's top entertainment venues, your favorite flavors of Girl Scout cookies stand in for cheese in the traditional pairings. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
