Coffee_ShopsCoffee shops are not just places to pick up a steaming-hot cup of caffeine-filled liquid to get you through the day. They're comfortable hangouts where you can catch up with friends, get some work done or just people-watch over a mocha latte or chai tea. Corpus Christi has some coffee shops that are perfect for these activities and many more. Why not check out one of these locations when you need a relaxing break?

1. Coffee Waves
5738 Alameda Street
Corpus Christi 78412

The motto of this appropriately-named shop is, "Sit. Sip. Surf." Their beverage menu includes the full complement of caffeinated drinks, available both hot and cold, as well as non-coffee drinks like hot chocolate and steamed milk. What really sets Coffee Waves apart is their food selection. Freshly-prepared pastries and breakfast items are delivered daily Monday through Friday from La Michoacana and JB's German Bakery. Grab a fruit empanada or sausage kolache to go with your coffee, sign on to the free Wi-Fi and you're ready to go.

2. Hester's Café
1714 S. Alameda Street
Corpus Christi 78404

High school sweethearts Jason and Hester Rodriguez poured their love of family and passion for cooking into this charming café in Six Points. The signature drink is Hester's Latte, a luscious blend of espresso, vanilla and hazelnut. You won't be able to resist the bakery cases and their rotating selection of scones, muffins, cupcakes and dozens of other freshly-baked treats. They also offer full breakfast and lunch menus with omelets, sandwiches and salads. Hester and Jason have branched out into two additional locations in the Art Museum and Lamar Park.

3. Downtown Coffee and Espresso Bar
601 N. Water Street
Corpus Christi 78401

Downtown Coffee is tucked into the Hotel Corpus Christi down on the waterfront. It's open 24 hours a day, making it a convenient spot to grab a latte or a bite to eat whenever you're out and about. In addition to coffee they serve sandwiches, pastries, juices and soft drinks.

4. Island Joes Coffee and Gallery
13919 S. Padre Island Drive
Corpus Christi 78418

Island Joes is something of a throwback to the hipster gathering places of the 1950s. Beverages are served from behind a brightly painted counter and the walls are filled with original artwork. The shop also hosts a variety of entertainment events including live music, movie screenings and Black Light Karaoke.

If you’re craving coffee, but don’t feel like venturing too far, stop in at the Springs clubhouse for a free cup from the coffee bar and hang out to use the free WiFi.
