The holidays are all about sharing fun and laughter with family and friends. Corpus Christi is alive with several events featuring lights, music, dance and nature to celebrate the season. Here are some of the activities we're especially looking forward to. Which ones will be on your holiday calendar?
Cowboy Christmas Concert
Monday, December 7
Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
For more than 20 years, Michael Martin Murphey, the "singing cowboy poet" known for his #1 hit "Wildfire" and other favorites, has been celebrating the holidays with his popular show. The tour travels to 40 different cities and the concert has been the subject of three albums and one DVD. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $22 - $32 with $7 admission for kids.
The Nutcracker
December 12, 13, 19 and 20
Selena Auditorium at American Bank Center
This holiday-themed fantasy set to a classic score by Tchaikovsky has been charming viewers of all ages for generations. The renowned Corpus Christi Ballet will be performing for a family weekend on the 12th and 13th and a gala weekend on the 19th and 20th. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday with tickets ranging from $22 - $37.
Harbor Lights Festival
Saturday, December 5
Shoreline Boulevard on the Bayfront
The Harbor Lights Festival and Boat Parade has been a local tradition dating back to 1982, gaining recognition as one of the major holiday events in the country. Land-based activities include food and gift vendors, Holiday Tree Village and Santa's motorcade, leading up to the beautifully illuminated boat parade. Admission is free for all guests.
Holiday Light Spectacular
Ongoing through December 12
La Palmera
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of shopping and holiday planning to enjoy a unique 3D light show in the Center Court of La Palmera. The show runs nightly at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Kids can bring their wish lists along to share with Santa Claus!
Healthy Holiday Cooking Class and Holiday Crafts for the Birds
Saturday, December 5 and Saturday, December 12
South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center
Sneak some education in with the holiday fun at these two kids' events offered at the Botanical Gardens. The cooking class on December 5 features hands-on participation in making simple and healthy holiday recipes, while the crafting session on December 12 lets kids share their spirit with birds and other urban wildlife. Both events start at 10 a.m. and fees are included in general admission to the Gardens.
