Valley Junction is a six-block area encompassing antique stores, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and other businesses. It's a favorite gathering spot. During Music in the Junction nights, get together with friends to shop at the Farmers Market beginning at 4 p.m., then kick back and enjoy live music by local bands until 8:30 p.m.

Iowa's annual BACooN event combines a 71-mile bike ride through the Raccoon River Valley with stops along the way for treats ranging from bacon-stuffed burritos to bacon-topped donuts. Bring camping gear so you can stay overnight in Waukee on June 16 for the pre-party featuring bands and, of course, a bacon dinner.
4th of July Parade and Fireworks, Downtown Waukee and Centennial Park

If you want to participate in Waukee's 4th of July parade, gather at the Vince Meyer Learning Center, 400 Locust Street, by 2 p.m. The parade begins at 3 p.m. and festivities last until fireworks at dark. Food vendors and live music are other attractions.
