We've gathered together some of the best things to do in West Des Moines to celebrate his special day so you have one convenient place to look when you're doing your planning.

1. Baseball at Living History Farms

Living History Farms, an open-air museum that sprawls across 500 acres in Urbandale, provides the opportunity to enjoy more than 300 years of the state's diverse agricultural history. Head out to the farm for a historic baseball game starting at 1:30 PM. Based on the rules that were in place during the 1870's -- such as the batter being able to request the height of the pitch and no overhead pitching -- the game is free with your paid admission.

2. Take Dad Swimming

On Father's Day, June 18th, Dad gets in free to any Des Moines Parks & Recreation pool or aquatic center. Pack up the whole family and spend the day cooling off with your favorite guy.

3. Father's Day Brunch at Granite City Food & Brewery

No Father's Day would be complete without treating dad to some delectable culinary delights. Get your celebratory day off to an energizing start by heading to Granite City Food & Brewery for their award-winning Chef's Table brunch. Call now to reserve a spot and dive into fresh and flavorful choices such as Maple Sage Canadian Bacon, Caramel Rolls, Soup du Jour, Eggs Benedict, Thick-Cut Bacon, RumChata French Toast and much more.

4. Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden's Father's Day Event

On June 18, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden extends free admission to all fathers. Take a stroll through their outdoor gardens, such as the Water Garden, Art and Sculpture garden and Meredith Terraces. The Conservatory is comprised of 665 Plexiglas panels that provide a nurturing environment for a variety of flora and fauna.

5. Iowa Cubs at Principal Park

Take your favorite man out to the ball game on Father's Day to watch the Iowa Cubs play at Principal Park. Starting at 1:08 PM, the Cubs will face off against Omaha. Afterwards, the kids demonstrate their baseball prowess by running the bases. Father's Day is also the date of the Pedal to the Park event so you and your father can ride your bikes together to and from Principal Park.
