Relocating_Tips_NOLA.jpgDid you know that 75 percent of our country's population moves once every five years? We've evolved into an increasingly nomadic society, which also means we've gotten pretty good at adapting to new settings.

If you're planning to move into Springs at Fremaux Town Center or Springs at River Chase, we'd like to share some useful tips with you to help you get settled into the New Orleans area:

1. Use Google Maps to Pre-explore Your New Community

Prior to moving into your new apartment home, you can familiarize yourself with the surrounding community by using tools on your smartphone such as Google Maps. Not only can you use Google Maps to plan your commute to work, but can also rely on it to find the closest parks, shopping centers, restaurants, and more. You can even take advantage of the Street View feature to get a 360 degree panoramic view of a particular area.

2. Don't Feel Pressured to Immediately Unpack Every Box

When moving into a new apartment home, many people feel this immense pressure to unpack every box as quickly as possible. However, it's important to remember that creating a comfortable environment inside your new apartment will take some time. That's why it's completely okay to leave a few boxes unpacked until you figure out exactly where you want to place the items.

3. Join Yelp or Foursquare to Find Local Activities

Both Yelp and Foursquare are location-based apps that are free to join and can help you find events and activities in your new community. Use these apps to discover the best restaurants and pubs locals in your community frequently flock to. Both Yelp and Foursquare offer a wealth of reviews from actual customers so you can have a more accurate picture of what to expect.

4. Familiarize Yourself with Your Local Recreation Center

The New Orleans Recreation Department Commission offers something for everyone, with more than 100 parks spanning throughout the community, including playgrounds, dog parks, tennis centers, walking trails, and more. In addition, you can sign up for a wide variety of activities, such as art, dance, fitness, music, and after school programs. The local recreation department also hosts a number of special events throughout the year, such as movies in the park and holiday parties. Getting plugged in with the New Orleans Recreation Department Commission can be a very effective way to get yourself acclimated to your new community.

5. Read the Local Newspapers

Want to know what's going on in Slidell or Covington? Read the local newspapers! Some of the best local online publications to check out include The Times-Picayune, The St. Tammany Farmer, Inside Northside Magazine, and The Slidell Independent.
