Creative Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day in New Orleans

August 23, 2017

Celebrate National Dog Day New OrleansWe celebrate the moms and dads in our lives, but what about our precious pups? Our dogs show us their unconditional love every day, so it only seems fitting that we should honor them by giving them their own special day.

National Dog Day is August 26, and there are several ways you can spoil your four-legged furry friend on this annual holiday in New Orleans:

1. Rescue a Pup From St. Tammany Humane Society
20384 Harrison Ave, Covington
985.892.7387

This non-profit, no-kill animal shelter has been serving the Northshore community since 1953 with veterinary care, pet fostering, pet adoption and more. The organization takes the time to carefully match dogs with pet owners' lifestyles and personalities using adoption counselors. If you don't already have a pup in your life, rescuing one from the St. Tammany Humane Society is a great option as it's affordable and allows you to help a dog in need. Before falling in love with a pup, be sure to check with our pet-friendly Springs at River Chase management team in Covington to confirm which breeds are welcome.

2. Spend the Day at Camellia City Dog Park
901 Howze Beach Rd, Slidell
985.646.4371

If your pup is cooped up indoors all day, he'll love the opportunity to get outside with you and run! While our Springs at Fremaux Town Center apartments in Slidell features an on-site off-leash dog park, sometimes it can be fun to get a change of scenery and experience one of the dog parks around town. Camellia City Dog Park in Slidell is a local favorite as it features an abundance of space for your dog to run to his heart's content. The park separates large dogs from small ones with two different fenced-in play areas. Park amenities for the dogs include agility challenges, fire hydrants and plenty of shade.

3. Dine at The Chimes
19130 Rogers Ln, Covington
985.892.5396

The Chimes has been a staple restaurant in the New Orleans community for more than 30 years and serves up Louisiana comfort food and quality beer. As the temperatures cool down this fall, The Chimes patio overlooking the river is the place to be with your pup. As an added bonus, the patio is covered, making it a great dining destination even on a rainy day.

4. Get a Makeover at Fur Babies Playpen
2992 Pontchartrain Dr, Slidell
985.265.4814

Want to treat your pup to a nice bath and new haircut? Fur Babies Playpen is the top destination for pet grooming in Slidell.
