So you’re moving to an apartment in New Orleans and you want to collect as much information as possible to make the transition more enjoyable than stressful. While it’s not possible to completely eliminate the stress that naturally comes with moving, understanding what to expect in your everyday life once you make the move to New Orleans is a great way to take much of the pressure off. Here are a few things you should know about moving to “The Big Easy”:

Shopping

If you’re like most people, you do a lot of shopping to keep up with your household’s lifestyle. From kitchen staples and household cleaners to personal hygiene products and entertainment items, there tends to always be a “to-buy” list piling up.

Luckily, New Orleans is home to a host of locally owned and operated stores so you can rest assured that you’re getting quality products at a fair price while helping to maintain a thriving economy within the community. Check out Villere’s Florist for fresh local flowers and the New Orleans Food Co-op for budget-friendly groceries or Langenstein’s, New Orleans’ oldest full-service grocery store.

Food

Dining out is an important part of building roots in any community. Spending time at restaurants helps the local economy, offers you an opportunity to make new friends in the area, and keeps you in tune with local culinary customs that you can use yourself at home. You can expect to find an abundance of local eateries in and around New Orleans to experience such as Arnaud’s Jazz Bistro where you can dine on Creole cuisine while enjoying Dixieland Jazz.

Sports

As a sports enthusiast, you can root for your favorite teams in person thanks to the gorgeous superdomes that are situated in the heart of New Orleans. Check out the multi-purpose Smoothie King Center where major NCAA men’s basketball games play out, professional bull riders compete, and WWE wrestlers get down and dirty. You’re also sure to be impressed with the Merces-Benz Superdome where the New Orleans Saints football team plays. Baseball, boxing, and soccer competitions are held there as well.

Transportation

Transportation is always a major factor when moving to a new area because it’s required to get just about anything done in life – going to work, shopping for necessities, heading to attractions, and running errands are just a few things that reliable transportation makes possible.

Of course, you can always drive everywhere you need to go but the costs of gas and insurance can add up quickly, so it’s nice to live somewhere like New Orleans where convenient public transportation is available. The Regional Transit Authority consists of 35 bus routes, five streetcars, and paratransit services to assist disabled residents, so you can get around anywhere without having to ever get behind the wheel.

These are just a few considerations to focus on while planning your move to an apartment in New Orleans, but they’re undoubtedly important aspects that can all help make your transition more pleasurable and rewarding.
