Quirky Valentine's Day Ideas in the Northshore

February 13, 2018

Valentines Day NorthshoreValentine's Day may be the celebration of all things love and hearts, but that doesn't mean you have to spend it fighting crowds at fancy restaurants or doing the same old boring things year after year. This year, pick one of these quirky things to do in the Covington and Slidell areas and surprise your someone special with a day to remember.

Go on a Bayou Sailing Adventure

Discover why Lake Pontchartrain is called the "Cajun Caribbean" from a beautiful ComPac Yacht or other sailing vessel. Cruise around the lake, watch the sun go down, bring a picnic, and let the mood strike as you enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars. Visit the Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall

Nearby Mandeville is home to one of the nation's oldest unaltered jazz dance halls. The Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall is not only a historical landmark, it is where Louis Armstrong used to jam when the pressures of popularity got to be too much. Best of all, concerts are still played here. Step back in time and visit the museum or take in a show and enjoy the open shutters as you sway the night away to some of the area's best jazz.

Go Fishing Along the Northshore

You cannot go wrong with wiling away the hours casting a line into the Northshore area of Lake Pontchartrain. Home to beautiful trout, flounder, redfish, tarpon, and more, it is easy to see why people flock to the Covington area to relax and catch some great fish. Bonus points if you take it back to one of the Springs Apartments and make dinner for your sweetie.

Take a Swamp and Plantation Tour

If roses and chocolates aren't your thing, maybe gators and sprawling plantations are. Explore the famous Honey Island Swamp or experience the stunning plantations that were the inspiration for Gone With the Wind. Then, hit up Pontchartrain Po-Boys for a Cajun supper in honor of your true Louisiana adventure.

Sometimes all it takes is to look outside of your front door in order to find a quirky way to show your loved one you care.
