Choosing a new apartment home is an exciting process, with many important considerations. You want to make sure you have enough space for your living habits without investing in a unit that’s too large and unwieldy. Use these tips to help you choose whether a one- or two-bedroom apartment is best for your new Oklahoma City home.
1. Evaluate Your Belongings
One of the most important considerations when you’re choosing an apartment home is where you’ll keep your belongings in the new space. Do a quick inventory of your furniture and other items to see how much you’re moving into your next home. If you have lots of furniture and accessories, you’ll likely want a two-bedroom unit to accommodate it all. However, if your extra belongings are primarily storage items like holiday decorations or out-of-season apparel, you might be comfortable in a one-bedroom unit with one of the optional garages available in our Springs at Memorial and Springs at May Lakes communities.
2. Check Out 3-D Floor Plans
If you’re unable to visit an apartment home in person and need to make a long-distance decision, online resources are the next best option for evaluating your choices. Photos will give you an idea of the aesthetic elements of a home, but they’re not always effective at showing the layout. A flat floor plan can give you a more comprehensive idea of the space, but even this isn’t ideal. Fortunately, we offer 3-D floor plans for our Springs communities that give you an idea of how common furniture pieces will fit in the home.
3. Consider Your Family
Who’s living with you in your new apartment home? If you’re looking for a budget solution for yourself and a roommate, you could feasibly choose either one or two bedrooms. You can live in a single bedroom dorm-style, or spread out with more personal space in two rooms. If you’re living with a partner, consider whether he or she would like an extra room for gaming, crafts, entertainment or an office. You should also consider whether your family might grow in the future, making an extra bedroom a handy feature.
4. Think Through Your Habits
What are your daily living habits? If you work from home, a second bedroom can prove a valuable addition for your home office. If you live alone and spend minimal time in the apartment, a smaller one bedroom might be a better option to simplify upkeep and expenses. Those who entertain often might want the guest bedroom, while residents who prefer dinner guests to overnight visitors might be more comfortable without having to field questions of whether guests can crash in the extra bed.
