At the same time, you may not want to travel too far from your new apartment as you still settle in and get to know the neighborhood and your fellow community members. No need to fear; there are plenty of camping spots in the Rochester area that diehard nature enthusiasts love.

Our team decided to come up with a list of premier camping spots in the area where you can pitch your tent, set a campfire, roast hot dogs and marshmallows, and soak up the glorious nature of southeastern Minnesota.   1. Rochester / Marion KOA Journey Campgrounds. If you want to keep your camping expedition really close to home at Springs at South Broadway, you can't do better than Rochester / Marion KOA Journey Campgrounds. Just under 8 miles from your front door via US-52, you can just drive down the road for a brief getaway to relax by a crackling fire while listening to the crickets and other nighttime auditory delights. If action is what you have in mind, the KOA features biking and hiking trails, space and equipment to play Frisbee golf or badminton, and a children's playground. 

  2. Chester Woods Park Campground. Another camping nearby spot is Chester Woods Park Campground that is just under 10 miles from home by US-14. Each of the campground's 42 sites has electrical hookup, so you can drive your camper over and enjoy all the comforts of what may become a sweet little home away from home after a long week at work. Bike, hike, swim, canoe, kayak and fish at this phenomenal camping spot.

  3. Lazy-D Campground. Travel I-90 East for about 30 miles to reach the Lazy-D Campground when you want to take your adventures a little farther from home while still enjoying camping in southeastern Minnesota. There is so much to love this family-owned campground located in Minnesota's scenic Whitewater Valley. Accommodations are up to you since the site features plenty of camping spots with water and electric hookup, plain tent sites, sleeper cabins and more. As for activities, you may not have enough time to try out everything that appeals to you. Check out Lazy-D's river tubing, horseback trail riding and funcycles/pedal carts, for starters. 

  4. Maple Springs Campground and Country Store. This rustic site is only 36 miles from your Springs community, and it is worth the drive for the perfect dose of calm and serenity. Maple Springs Campground and Country Store prides itself on offering a quiet outdoor adventure for its guests, offering activities like bird watching, walking along pleasant and gentle nature trails, and spending quality time with family and friends however you see fit. If you do need a little more action, there is plenty of great fishing, or you can venture out to the hiking trails.
