1. Have a Clean Credit History

Housing is a major commitment for both you and the management team. In exchange for an apartment and all the included services, management is relying on your good character to hold up your end of the bargain. A solid credit history indicates your financial responsibility up front.

2. Be Gainfully Employed

Stable employment is another positive check mark in demonstrating good character. A spotty work record shows you may be on shaky ground financially, or you don't stay in one place for long.

3. Pay Rent On Time

Being a few days late might not seem like a big deal, but rent is what pays for maintaining amenities and services. It's a simple thing, but it will definitely keep you on management's good side.

4. Read Your Lease

No one enjoys reading the fine print. However, a lease is a legal document and you owe it to yourself and management to know what you’ve signed. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by knowing what is and isn’t allowed. If you do something prohibited by the terms of the lease, such as painting, pleading ignorance will not get you off the hook.

5. Treat the Apartment Like Your Own Property

You don't have to own your home to take ownership of it. Respect management, neighbors and future residents by giving your apartment plenty of TLC. Being careless can actually end up costing you money in forfeited security deposits.
