New Year Resolutions to Take

January 02, 2018

Keep Your New Year Resolutions in Chicagoland.jpgAs we are a few days into the New Year, many people have considered their resolutions for making their lives better in some way. This might be eating in a more healthy manner, getting more exercise or reducing stress. Maybe you want to resolve to find a more suitable place to live, purchase a new car or find a job that gives you satisfaction as well as a paycheck. The following tips can help you make your resolutions a reality.

1. Make Your Resolutions Something You Will Do

If you're like most people, you should exercise more and stop eating fast food so often. These "shoulds" don't typically inspire you to make the necessary changes though. Neither are resolutions that are centered on wants unless you are willing and able to do the hard work to make them a reality. If you want to learn ballroom dancing but don't have the time to devote to lessons, you probably won't keep this resolution.

A resolution that's made because you think it's possible for you to accomplish it is one that's you're more likely to keep. Suppose you do have the time to take those dance lessons. Additionally, you've found a dance studio that offers beginner lessons at a time that's convenient for you. When you believe that you can achieve your resolutions, it's the first step to success.

2. Match Your Resolutions to Your Priorities

Every year, there seem to be resolutions that are popular and that sweep through social media. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon of popularity or making a resolution because your friends are doing it, focus on what your priorities in life are at the moment. If you're a vegetarian, then joining your friends more frequently for fishing trips isn't likely to be a resolution that you'll wind up keeping. Resolving to expand your repertoire of vegetarian dishes, however, might be something that you'll find easier to be successful at.

3. Do You Have What it Takes to be Successful?

Sometimes resolutions aren't successful because you aren't aware of everything that's involved. Perhaps your resolution takes too much time or it requires that you travel a distance that's too far. To help prevent this, make sure you carve out time to research the methods required in order for you to be successful.

Another good tactic is to explore the reasons why you failed to meet your resolutions in 2017. If you didn't develop a plan for accomplishing your resolutions, it's possible that is the reason that you weren't successful at your resolutions. Or maybe your drive and motivation dissipated before you could make very much progress. Knowing these pitfalls can help you be successful this year.
