Take a hike, Tulsa! Or a run, or a jog. If you feel like you need to get outdoors for a while, we have the perfect place (or three). The Tulsa area has plenty of great walking and running trails just waiting for you to come and explore them. So, lace up your shoes, grab your bottled water and a buddy (or even your four-legged buddy, as some of these trails do allow dogs), and head on out the door!
Turkey Mountain Yellow Trail - 5 miles
Turkey Mountain Yellow Trail is a hiker's favorite. The trail is five miles in length (that's out and back) and is considered pretty amazing for being so close to the city. It's rated as moderate and is very well-marked. Dogs are welcome, but only if leashed. It does get pretty crowded on the weekends and holidays, so go during 'off' times if you prefer a more solitary trail hike.
Turkey Mountain Red Trail - 1.72 miles
Turkey Mountain Red Trail is a trail that is great for hiking, biking and running. There are lots of bikers, so be aware, but don't avoid it. The elevation is 121 feet, so it offers great views, and leashed dogs are welcome here. This trail gets packed on weekends and holidays, too, just like the Yellow Trail. It's a very popular place!
Osage Prairie Trail - 14.5 miles
Osage Prairie Trail is part of the “Rails to Trails” Conservancy and is dog friendly. The particular section follows the old Midland Valley Railway and links Oklahoma State University with Skiatook. The trail passes through both country and suburban settings. And don't worry, at night, the trail is lighted.
