How to Reduce Your Electric Bill in Fort Myers

Reduce_Electric_Bill_SWF.jpgIf you’re looking for an easy way to save some money, your utility bill is a great place to start. There are many small changes you can make in your daily routines that will lower your electric bill without impacting your comfort. Try these strategies in your Fort Myers apartment.

Turn on Your Fans

Fans create a refreshing wind chill effect that will make rooms feel cooler than they actually are. This allows you to keep a lower thermostat setting while still maintaining the same level of comfort in your home. Keep in mind that fans don’t actually cool the room, they just make it feel cooler by blowing air onto your skin. Turn fans off when you leave the room since the effect is useless if a space isn’t occupied.

Program the Thermostat Wisely

Take a close look at how you program your thermostat. In warm weather, you should set the thermostat higher when you’re out of the house or asleep. The opposite is true when it’s cool out. If it’s cold enough for you to turn to heat, make sure your thermostat is set lower at night and during the day when you’re out.

Use Power Strips

Plug your major appliances into power strips so you can turn them off completely when they’re not in use. Your computer, television, and other electronics continue to leech energy even when they’re off. Stop the energy drain by plugging them into a power strip and turning the entire strip off when the appliances aren’t in use.

Wash on Cold

Warm water doesn’t actually increase the cleanliness of your clothing, though it does increase your utility bills. Wash all your laundry on cold to reduce the amount of energy you use heating water. Though you’d surely miss the hot water in your shower, your clothing won’t mind at all.

Just a few small changes to your regular habits can help you lower your energy bills and pad your wallet. Your comfort won't suffer for these minor adjustments, but the environment and your bank account will thank you.
