Where to Celebrate March Madness in Austin

Basketball fans, rejoice! March Madness has finally arrived with this year's NCAA tournament beginning on Tuesday, March 13. If you're looking for a place to catch the big games, here are some local Austin sports bars where you're sure to have a great time.

1. Little Woodrow's

With large plasma screens covering the walls and several flat screens behind the bars, Little Woodrow's is the perfect place for basketball fans to congregate during March Madness. They have more than 50 beers on tap including brews from Kona Brewing Company and Regeneration. If you're interested in having a private party during one of the games, just contact the restaurant; they can accommodate groups of up to 200.

2. The Tavern

The Tavern is known for their food; the burgers have quite a following, and the chili dog is the perfect game day treat. The restaurant has a second floor that they open during big games, and there are 46 TVs for easy viewing. They offer drink specials every day of the week, including all-day Happy Hour on Mondays and $12 local pitchers on Thursdays.

3. Midway Field House

This sports bar has a cool, retro vibe with old jerseys on the walls and pool tables in the dining area. There's an entire floor dedicated to basketball with March Madness games playing on a massive projection screen. Check their Facebook page often to see which games are playing. They have an enormous 4-door fridge filled with unique craft beers, and there are different drink specials each night. If you tire of watching basketball, there will probably be a tournament going on that you can participate in—whether it be darts, foosball, Skeeball or bumper pool.

4. Cain & Abel's Bar & Grill

Cain & Abel's has a fun and lively atmosphere; you won't be the only March Madness fan cheering loudly at the bar! They have a comfortable patio where you can enjoy the nice spring weather, and the Texas-themed menu is sure to have you ordering seconds. Try the crawfish tacos or the El Toro sandwich for some great game-day eats. Dogs are welcome on the patio, so consider bringing your furry friend along. If you catch Tuesday's game, you can even enjoy $1 domestic beer specials.

5. Lavaca Street Bar

Lavaca Street Bar has a dive-like atmosphere, but they always broadcast the big game during March Madness. There are TVs across the entire bar and in the corners of the dining room. Each day, they offer a different special. Sundays and Mondays are half-price wing nights, and Tuesdays are free bacon nights. The bartenders are very friendly, and if you visit often during March Madness, you'll soon be treated like a regular.
