Armed Forces Day is coming up on Saturday, May 20. This holiday was organized by President Harry Truman and Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson in 1949 to thank military members in all branches for their service, and today, there are a variety of activities across the country honoring the brave men and women who have served this country.
Here are several ways to honor our military personnel and families this year.
JDub’s Brewing Company hosts a food truck rally on the third Saturday of every month. On Saturday, May 20, you’ll find a wide assortment of delicious eats from local favorites including Smokin’ Momma Lora’s BBQ Mobile, Michelle Faedo’s On The Go, Rolling with my Hoagies, Dashing Dingo Pizza Co., Stuffed Food Truck Tampa, and more. The trucks will be on hand from 5 to 10 p.m. and DJ Shawn David will be hosting the tunes.
In honor of Armed Forces Day, military personnel and veterans will enjoy $3 flagship beers from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show up early to enjoy this great deal leading up to the food truck fun.
Take the weekend and head up to Kissimmee to celebrate Armed Forces Day on the lakefront. You’ll find live music on the outdoor stage, a wealth of vendors, a raffle and a delicious assortment of food trucks. The event is hosted by the American Legion Post 10, and the fun lasts through May 19 and 20.
Honor Armed Forces Day by making a donation to a charity that helps support active duty military personnel, veterans or military families. There are dozens of options that you can explore. Some charities to consider include:
Fisher House Foundation: Provides housing to military families while veterans receive medical care at nearby treatment facilities.
