There are still plenty of warm summery evenings left in the Denver area, and getting ice cream is the perfect way to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts. Whether you love chocolatey concoctions or simple vanilla, here are some of the best ice cream and frozen yogurt shops in the Longmont and Loveland areas.
1. Scrumptious
508 Main St, Longmont
Scrumptious is a retro candy store and ice cream shop, offering unique flavors like Chocolate Whiskey Ginger and Blue Moon. Their serving sizes are generous, and they always have about 20 different options — all of which are made in-house. While you're licking your cone, check out the wrapped and bulk candy selections and the colorful artwork on the walls.
2. Twisted Roots Yogurt
1749 N Main St, Longmont
Frozen yogurt can be a healthier alternative to ice cream as long as you choose your toppings wisely. At Twisted Roots, they offer plenty of fruit toppings, from strawberry to mango, though they also have cookies and candy to satisfy a sweet tooth. You fill your own bowl with the yogurt and toppings of your choice and then pay based on weight. Favorites include the blueberry tart and key lime pie. Enjoy your dessert on the patio, where you'll find comfortable sofas and bar-height tables.
3. Dairy Delite
3080 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland
With a charming, diner-like atmosphere, Dairy Delite serves ice cream, frozen yogurt, hot dogs and other quick treats. They even have their own version of Dole Whip, a frozen pineapple concoction that is sure to please your taste buds. The shakes are thick and tasty, and if you want something more substantial, you can pair your dessert with a burger or cheese dog. There are Pac Man and Galaga machines to entertain you while you wait!
4. Paciugo Gelato Caffe
5971 Sky Pond Dr Ste C124, Loveland
Gelato is a very rich, Italian version of ice cream, and Paciugo makes some of the best in the area. They use top-quality ingredients in creating their homemade gelato, and it really shows. Flavors include tiramisu, creme brulee and cookie dough. The staff members are friendly, and they even offer ice cream cakes and other desserts for parties.
5. Mary's Mountain Cookies
6055 Sky Pond Dr, Loveland
The shop may be named after their cookies, but don't let that fool you. Mary's Mountain Cookies also serves delicious ice cream, and the best way to enjoy it is sandwiched between two of their cookies. From s'mores to almond glaze, the cookies come in a multitude of flavors, and you can place any ice cream flavor between them. There are a few tables outside the shop where you can sit and enjoy the nice weather as you eat.
