The holiday season is the perfect time to give back to those in your community. If your budget is stretched thin from gift-giving, consider giving something even more valuable than money. This season, give your time, attention and effort to a meaningful cause in the New Orleans area and help others enjoy a spirited season just as merry as your own.
1. Animal Rescue New Orleans
271 Plauche St, New Orleans
If you have a love for animals, the Animal Rescue New Orleans needs your help. This volunteer-based shelter has a variety of essential duties that need to be performed on a regular basis. As a volunteer, you can assist with washing pet dishes, cleaning litter boxes, doing laundry, sanitizing cages and carriers, walking dogs and handling light housekeeping tasks. Volunteers are also needed to staff booths occasionally at special events. You can fill out an application online to get started.
2. The Roots of Music
828 Royal St #521, New Orleans
The Roots of Music is an organization that empowers youth through mentorship and music education. The charity also provides academic support to help students keep up with their schoolwork. Children between the ages of 9 and 14 from low-income families can participate in the program and receive instrumental education, hot meals and transportation to easily facilitate participation in the ensemble.
If you’re interested in volunteering with The Roots of Music, you can generously donate your time to assist students with homework, studying, and school projects. Help these young musicians succeed in their academic efforts by lending your own expertise and support.
