Some choose to take a vacation to escape reality. However, a more budget-friendly solution is to escape with a book. With August 9 being National Book Lovers Day, we wanted to share our favorite bookstores around New Orleans where you can discover hidden gems and spend the afternoon tucked behind a book:
1. Big Easy Comics
301 N Hwy 190 #6, Covington
Channel your inner-kid and visit this one-of-a-kind comic book shop that specializes in offering new and vintage comics, graphic novels, statues, toys and more. Gaming fanatics will appreciate that Big Easy Comics hosts weekly events for tabletop games such as War Hammer and Magic the Gathering. Unlike traditional comic book stores that are cramped into a small space, Big Easy Comics offers impressive square footage with an industrial feel. Whether you're into comics or not, a visit to Big Easy Comics is sure to be an experience!
2. 2nd & Charles
401 US-190, Covington
Instead of letting the books that you've already read collect dust in your Springs at River Chase apartment, trade them in for cash at 2nd & Charles, a used book store in Covington. This shop offers a great selection of unique and hard-to-find books as well as best sellers, making it a great place to score a good read for a discounted price. You can also find a great selection of used CDs, video games, DVDs and vinyl records. Collectors will have a field day at 2nd & Charles, and bargain hunters won't walk away disappointed.
3. Book Sack
1234 Bayou Ln, Slidell
This local bookstore has been serving the Slidell community with great reads for more than 25 years. Why pay full price for a new book when you can purchase a gently used paperback, hardback or 1st edition book for a discounted price? You can also find a great selection of used children's books at the Book Sack. If you're looking for a specific book, be sure to call ahead to see if it's in stock.
360 Town Center Pkwy, Slidell
Just a short walk from your Springs at Fremaux Town Center apartment is Books-a-Million, which is a large chain bookstore that offers just about any book under the sun. If you're looking for a bestseller, Books-A-Million will probably have it in stock. Another bonus is that most of the prices are better than what you could find online.
In honor of National Book Lovers Day, make a point to check out one of these local book stores in Covington and Slidell. You won't be disappointed!
