Winter Events in the Northshore Area

January 25, 2018

Things to do in the Northshore during winterEven though the temperatures drop a little lower during the winter months in the New Orleans suburbs north of Lake Ponchartrain, there is no reason to hibernate. Put on a jacket—you may even need a coat on chilly nights—and get ready to let the good times roll, in spite of the cooler air.

Things to Do in Covington and Slidell This Winter

We love that we get to let our community members know that there are plenty of things to do in Slidell and Covington to put cabin fever on hold until the warmer weather shines through. Take a look at some of our favorite winter events in the Northshore area.

1. Visit the Movie Tavern Northshore in Covington Just in Time for Awards Season

If you feel like catching up on the latest movie releases, you need to visit the Movie Tavern Northshore, which offers more than a seat and a screen. The theater offers the delightful blend of cinema and cuisine. They do it by "providing a robust, in-theater dining service featuring chef-driven menus, premium quality food and drink and luxurious seating that completely transforms your movie going experience." Located just 4.2 miles from Springs at River Chase Apartments, the short trip to the Movie Tavern promises a relaxing and convenient way to cruise through winter with plenty of entertainment, tasty dining and other perks.

2. Bundle Up and Head Off to Tammany Trace for a Hike, Bike or Other Recreation

According to the Tammany Trace website, the massive recreational area was originally a corridor for the Illinois Central Railroad but is now a hike and bike trail that spans from downtown Covington, through Abita Springs, Mandeville and Lacombe and ends in Slidell. As far as outdoors things to do in Covington go, this one is a real keeper, and the main park entrance at 21490 Koop Drive Mandeville, LA, is only about 7 miles from the Springs at River Chase.

3. Fire Up Your Taste Buds at the Carmelia City Farmers Market

There's nothing quite like a brilliant display of fruits and vegetables to cure the winter blahs. Located at 1808 Front Street, you might soon consider the Carmelia City Farmers Market your own personal fresh food oasis since it is a mere 2.5 miles from our Springs at Fremaux Town Center community in Slidell. Open every Saturday morning, from 8:00 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, you can count on finding the freshest seasonal produce available. If it does rain, you can step inside the indoor marketplace where you can explore the works of over 30 local artists on display at any given time.

4. What's Winter without a Good Old-Fashioned Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre?

While this destination is a longer drive for our Springs at Fremaux Town Center residents, it is just over 6.5 miles from our Covington property. We still consider a visit to Annadele's Plantation Restaurant and Bed & Breakfast one of our favorite things to do in Slidell because it is such a unique experience that makes it completely worth the mileage.

You Can Always Enjoy the Winter a Little Closer to Home

If you don't want to go out every free night, you have plenty of options at home. Both of our kid-friendly and pet-friendly apartment communities in Slidell and Covington offer you all the conveniences, entertainment and recreation you need to get through the winter without boredom and the blues. If you need to burn off some energy, hit our 24-hour fitness center or take a walk around the lush grounds. The community clubhouse can come in handy for everything from planning a winter party to getting away from your apartment to do some work during the day, thanks to your complimentary WiFi.

Let us know if there are any other resources or amenities you have in mind for your new community. We'd love to talk more winter activities in the area and anything else on your mind.
