Pet-Adoption-Rochester-MN.jpgIs a pet what you need to make your Rochester, Minnesota apartment truly home? One of the most rewarding ways to add a pet to your life is by adopting an animal from a local shelter. Here are a few places near Springs at South Broadway where you just might find your furry family member waiting for you!

1. Paws and Claws Humane Society
3224 19th St, Northwest

As an animal shelter dedicated to the rescue and care of abandoned animals, Paws and Claws is a great choice for your adoption needs. Paws and Claws is a "no-kill" shelter, which means pets are not euthanized, so you can adopt with confidence knowing your adoption fees are helping an organization you can support wholeheartedly. Pets are available for viewing from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, as well as from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

If you find your ideal companion, you'll need to fill out an adoption application and an adoption volunteer will then follow up with you to discuss your application. Once the application's approved, all you need to do is pay the adoption fee and schedule a time to pick up your new pet!

2. Safe Haven Pet Rescue
P.O. Box 733

Through the dedicated work of a volunteer staff, Safe Haven Pet Rescue is able to rescue abandoned dogs and cats and help them find new, loving homes. While awaiting adoption at this no-kill center, pets stay in foster homes or boarding facilities throughout the region. Safe Haven posts available animals on the PetFinder website, so if you see a pet you're interested in, you can schedule a time to meet him or her.

Keep in mind that Safe Haven Pet Rescue is passionate about matching pets to people, so you won't be able to adopt your new friend the same day you meet him or her. If the pet seems like a good fit, however, you'll be asked to fill out an adoption questionnaire and contract for final approval before taking home that new furry friend.

3. Camp Companion
P.O. Box 7478

If you're looking for a cat, Camp Companion is a great place to look. While this rescue focuses on trap-neuter-return services for farm, feral and stray cats, in the course of their work they come across companion animals and kittens born to feral or farm cats that need rescuing as well. After these animals are spayed or neutered, they're placed on PetFinder and then into foster homes to await their forever home, which just might be you! The adoption fee is $90 for cats and $200 for dogs, and all applicants must fill out an adoption contract.

Are you ready to add some love to your life? Start browsing these shelters to find your next furry friend today!
