And if you think you have to travel all the way to Napa Valley to experience a great wine tasting event, think again. According to the Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association, Texas is America’s #5 grape and wine producer with more than 420 growers and 273 Wineries. That being said, for San Antonio wine lovers looking to taste some of the best wines Texas has to offer (along with all the other out-of-state and international varieties), make sure you check out these 3 local wine tasting events.

1. 34th Annual San Antonio Wine Festival

For the city’s biggest wine enthusiasts, the San Antonio Wine Festival is the go-to wine tasting of the year. With 3 different events over the course of one weekend, attendees are able to taste a wide selection of the best wines and champagnes from around the world. Whether you’re interested in attending a black-tie affair or the slightly more casual “Fine Wine & Cuisine Tasting” event, you and your taste buds are bound to have a great time. 2. 28th Annual Gruene Music & Wine Fest
October 9-12, 2014
Greune Historic District – Braunfels, TX

If you don’t mind making a little bit of a drive, the Gruene Music & Wine Fest is one of the most entertaining wine tasting events you can possibly attend. Located about 25 miles Northeast of the city in Braunfels, the festival runs from Thursday-Sunday with a unique wine/music event each day. No matter the event, however, each one will have a distinct focus on Texas-made wines and local Texas artists. You can save money on tickets by ordering them online beforehand, but you need to hurry because they’re selling out quick!

Looking for a wine tasting event that’s less expensive and more casual? Make sure you check out the Hangar Tavern’s monthly wine tastings held every 3rd Thursday of the month. The cost to attend is only $10, which includes 10 samples of wine, a complimentary wine screw, appetizers, and a raffle ticket. They even have a professional sommelier on site to educate tasters and answer any questions.
