Your home in our Springs Apartments community provides convenient access to an eclectic assortment of restaurants in San Antonio. Thanks to the city’s vibrant dining scene, there are always new and exciting locations to try out. Here is a guide to some of the more recent additions.
1. Hot Joy
The inventive Asian fusion served at Hot Joy earned it the #7 spot on Bon Appetit’s 2014 “Hot Ten” list of new restaurants throughout the country. Chef Quealy Watson experiments with unexpected ingredients in dishes like Tater Tot Chaat, an Indian spin on poutine, and the popular Twice-Fried Chicken Wings prepared with crab fat caramel, peanuts and cilantro. Equally unique cocktails feature witty names such as “Wax On Wax Off.”
2. Barbaro
Can a city ever have too many pizza joints? In San Antonio, the answer is a resounding "No!", especially when it's as delicious as the pies served at Barbaro. They manage to incorporate unconventional toppings while still providing the satisfaction of traditional pizza. Exotic ingredients such as kimchi and foie gras sit alongside classic ones like mushrooms and pepperoni.
3. Cured
Chef/owner Steve McHugh earned his culinary stripes working for celebrity chef John Besh, and he put his know-how to use in opening Cured. McHugh shares Besh's fondness for charcuterie, which refers to items such as salami and prosciutto that are preserved via smoking and curing. He gives back to the community by donating $1 from each charcuterie order to charity. The bayou influence is also found in dishes like po' boys and shrimp and grits.
The Clean Plate’s name refers to their mission to serve "clean" foods that are sustainable and locally sourced. If you think this translates to "rabbit food," you'll be pleasantly surprised by hearty dishes such as a luscious four-cheese mac and cheese or roasted and fried chicken served with smashed potatoes. The menu changes seasonally to take advantage of the freshest ingredients, so each visit can be a new experience.
5. The Luxury
Restauranteur Andrew Weissman created an eco-friendly eatery by repurposing shipping containers into the kitchen and bar serving area of The Luxury. Located across from the San Antonio Museum of Art, The Luxury features counter service for its outdoor dining area filled with picnic tables. The casual sandwich-and-salad menu includes what many consider to be the best French fries in the city.
