1. Fright Fest

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is promising the "biggest, scariest and most terrifying Fright Fest" in its 25-year history. New haunted houses and scare zones for this year include Blood Bayou and Carnevil 3D, while live entertainment will be provided at Monster Mash Bash and Rock Apocalypse. All-day tickets start at $57.99, or you can purchase Fright Fest-only tickets beginning at $22.99. Fright Fest runs on selected dates through October 31.

2. Spooktacular and Howl-O-Scream

By day, Sea World hosts the family-friendly Spooktacular with trick-or-treating, a hay maze and other fun Halloween activities. As night falls, the park transforms into Howl-O-Scream featuring five haunted houses, Halloween-themed bars and live entertainment. Both events take place on selected dates through October 29. Visit the website for hours and ticket prices. Note: Howl-O-Scream is not recommended for kids under the age of 13.

3. Zoo Boo!

For 25 years, Zoo Boo! has been one of the more popular Halloween events in San Antonio. Each Saturday and Sunday through October 29, the zoo hosts a wide range of holiday activities such as trick-or-treating, a hay maze, magic shows and costume contests. Don't forget to catch a ride on the Zoo Boo! Express. Hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m and tickets are $21.99 for adults and $18.99 for kids between the ages of 3 to 11.

4. Dia de los Muertos Festival

Enjoy a cultural Halloween celebration at La Villita's traditional Dia de los Muertos Festival. Highlights include an exhibit of altars honoring departed family and friends, a drum and puppet procession, and live music and poetry readings. Vendors will be on hand with original artwork along with food and drink favorites. Festival hours are 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. on October 28 and noon – 10 p.m. on October 29. Admission is free for all guests.

Work off that Halloween candy with a holiday-themed hike at Lockhart State Park on October 14 and 28 at 7 p.m. A Master Naturalist will lead you through the park as you explore how the "creatures of the night" come alive in the dark. Park entrance fees are $3 for adults, while kids ages 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
