Six Awesome Dog Parks Around Austin

October 31, 2017

Dog Parks around AustinDogs need regular exercise to keep them in good health and on their best behavior. While Springs apartment communities offer off-leash dog parks right on site, sometimes it's nice to have a change of scenery. Here's a look at six excellent local dog parks where you and your furry companion can explore.

1. Auditorium Shores
920 W Riverside Dr, Austin

This popular park is located along the bank of Town Lake. There are a lot of festivals and concerts there in the summer, but they also have an off-leash area near South First Street. If you'd rather walk your dog on a leash, head down the Hike-and-Bike Trail, which offers a flat, paved surface and passes by a lot of pretty scenery.

2. Davis White Northeast District Park
5909 Crystalbrook Dr, Austin

This park is a great place to spend an afternoon with friends and family members — including the furry ones. There are picnic shelters, playgrounds and a walkable trail that stretches for a mile. There's an off-leash area where your dog can enjoy playing, and it's well-shaded to keep him cool on hot days.

3. Red Bud Isle
3401 Redbud Tr, Austin

Set against the Tom Miller Dam, this park stretches across 13 acres of wooded land and large fields. Dogs do not need to remain on leashes as long as they’re friendly and under verbal control. You can fish in the creek, take a swim, hike the well-maintained trails and even spot some wildlife as you explore the park together.

4. Norwood Estate Dog Park
1009 Edgecliff Terrace, Austin

Norwood Estate is a popular choice among small dog owners since there are separate, designated off-leash areas for large and small dogs. There's a water station where your dog can refresh himself after a good run, along with doggy bag dispensers so you can easily clean up after your pet. The double-gate enclosure ensures dogs don't escape from the park, and there are plenty of tables where you can rest while your pooch plays.

5. Onion Creek District Park
7001 Onion Creek Dr, Austin

This small park usually isn’t busy, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet as you and your dog hike along the shaded trails. There are more than 179 acres to explore, and leashes are not required. Onion Creek runs through the park and offers some beautiful waterfront scenery while also attracting some wildlife.

6. West Austin Park & Wading Pool
1317 W 10th St, Austin

This park has a dedicated off-leash area fitted with double gates for security. There are always drinking bowls and tennis balls scattered about, as well as plenty of other visitors for your dog to play with. There are seats and shade available in the park, and there's a swimming pool outside the off-leash area if you want to take a dip.
