A little pre-planning will make the job easier. When you're packing, label each box clearly so they can be put in the correct rooms as they're unloaded from the truck.
2. Set a Deadline
It's not necessary or even realistic to expect unpacking to be completed in one day. But the more time that goes by, the harder it is to finish. Depending on the floor plan and the amount of your belongings, a week or two is a reasonable goal.
3. First Things First
Of course, as you were packing and carefully labeling boxes, you assembled a first-night box of essentials such as a coffee maker, toilet paper and change of clothing. Make sure the box is handy so you can unpack it right away.
4. Four Hands Are Better than Two
Enlist a family member or friend to help. You can each work on a separate room, and you'll have someone handy to assist with moving furniture and other heavy items.
5. Go in Order of Importance
The kitchen is usually the center of activity so work on that room first, but plan on take-out or delivery for at least the first two nights.
Head to the bathroom next and hang the shower curtain, put toiletries away and set out towels and washcloths.
Now it's time to unpack the bedroom. You can either set up your bed for the first night or "rough it" for a night or two with sleeping bags or a mattress on the floor.
Finally, it's time to work on the living room. Consider waiting a bit to hook up the TV so you're not tempted to take endless viewing breaks.
6. Work "Inside Out"
Who wants to spend time dragging couches and tables from one end of a room to another? Have a plan for where the larger pieces of furniture will go, and then you can work the smaller items and accessories around them.
Springs at Orchard Road and Springs at Weber Road feature 3D floor plans and video tours for your convenience so you can set up your furniture blueprint ahead of time.
