6 Cool (and Free!) Corpus Christi Events for Hot Summer Days

1. Corpus Christi Ride-In Theater

Don your finest T-Birds and Pink Ladies attire and ride on over for a screening of Grease 2. Bring along your leashed dog to have his picture taken for display at the La Chihuahua Bar in the latest Chuy's Tex-Mex location opening in Corpus Christi later this summer. The event opens at 6 p.m. with a 9 p.m. showtime, and food trucks and a full bar will be on-site.

2. Bay Jammin' Concert & Cinema Series
Cole Park

Thursdays and Fridays through August 18

What would a Corpus Christi summer be without Bay Jammin'? The Thursday night concerts have been bringing classic rock, jazz, soul, blues and dance music to guests for 27 years, while the Friday night series featuring the best in family-friendly movies began in 2003. Concerts run 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. and movies begin at dark, so bring your lawn chairs and blankets and settle in for an evening of entertainment.

3. Food Truck Fridays

Last Friday of the month

Kick off the weekend early with a lunchtime party sponsored by Corpus Christi Visitor Information Center. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the last Friday of the month for some good food, live music and lawn games. The confirmed food truck lineup includes Mr. G's BBQ, TacoBar Street and Tailfins Seafood to Go.

4. Family Art Time
Art Center of Corpus Christi

Each Wednesday and Saturday

Spend some quality family time expressing your creativity at this twice-weekly event. Recent topics include "Drawing with Scissors," "Birds of Whimsy" and "Potato Head Picassos." All ages are welcome from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

5. 4th of July Big Bang Celebration
Corpus Christi Bayfront
Thursday, June 30 through Monday, July 4

The 4th of July is such a big party in Corpus Christi that we need five days to celebrate. No-charge activities include Marina Arts District ArtWalk, Harbor BridgeWalk and Free Friday at the Art Museum of South Texas. The main event on Monday features the Mayor's Parade, Kids Zone, live music and Harbor Bridge Light Show, capped off with a spectacular fireworks display over the bay.

6. Corpus Christi Municipal Band Concerts
Del Mar College Amphitheater
East Campus
Each Sunday through July 19

Enjoy a starry summer evening filled with the sounds of light pop, Broadway show tunes and movie music performed by the Corpus Christi Municipal Band. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Don't forget your lawn chairs and blankets.
