Beat-the-Heat-CC.jpgDoes the arrival of another Corpus Christi summer create mixed feelings? It's a time for baseball games, picnics and boating, but the heat can wear on you.

We've made a list of some of our favorite places to escape that intense South Texas sun. Enjoy some "cool" fun at one of these popular spots.

1. Century 16 and IMAX
6685 S Padre Island Dr
361.985.2227

The best place to watch a movie is still on the big screen in a theater, so hunker down with some popcorn and a cold drink in the air conditioned comfort of Century 16. All the latest Hollywood features are shown with state-of-the-art digital equipment, including 3D and IMAX. Tickets for all shows that begin before 1 p.m., along with all screenings on Tuesdays are only $5.50.

2. B&J's Pizza
6662 S Staples St
361.985.6474

B&J's, now in its fifth decade in Corpus Christi, started out as a uniquely '70s hybrid of a pizza parlor and computer store. Current owners Jack and Kathy Baker bought the restaurant in 1987 after the computer business had been shut down, and changed the menu to incorporate all fresh ingredients. Today B&J's, just around the corner from Springs at Corpus Christi, offers the best beer selection in town, including their own craft brews.

3. Brewster Street Ice House
1724 N Tancahua
361.884.2739

What better place to cool off than an ice house? Brewster Street opened 10 years ago and quickly became a popular spot for food, drink and live music. All ages are welcome in the family-friendly establishment, with kids 10 and under admitted free to the shows when accompanied by an adult. Featured acts range from tribute and cover bands to country to sing-alongs.

4. Texas State Aquarium
2710 N Shoreline Blvd
800.477.4853

When you're surrounded by this much water, you can't help but feel cooler. The Aquarium is full of so many activities that you could think of it as an educational amusement park. Exhibits such as Dolphin Bay®, Living Shores and Stingray Lagoon let you get up close and personal with animals and fish in their natural habitats. Dig for fossils at Owen's Paleo Park or play in the marine-themed H-E-B Splash Park. Hours are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. seven days a week, and weekday discount admissions are available online.

5. The Woodhouse Day Spa®
6000 S Staples St
361.985.8488

Just over a mile down the road from Springs at Corpus Christi, you'll find this oasis that will make you feel like you're in another world. Pamper yourself with treatments like massages, facials, wraps and mani/pedis. Enjoy the services a la carte or indulge in one of their combination packages. The spa is open seven days a week and you can book an appointment online with their 24/7 reservation system.

Don't even have the energy to make it to your car? Our Springs at Corpus Christi resort-style pool is just steps away!
