Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxing yoga class or an intense boot camp-style workout, Des Moines and Waukee have a plethora of options. Residents at Springs at Waukee and Springs at Jordan Creek love visiting our on-site, 24-hour fitness studios with yoga and Pilates areas, but the following five workout venues are great for when you need a change of pace:
Krave Gym takes a balanced approach to fitness with their TEAM Training Sessions, which blend endurance, strength, and agility exercises. The classes last an hour and are held both early in the day, at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., and later in the evening, at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. This makes it easy to stop in for a workout before or after work. Membership is $99 per month and includes access to classes and the gym floor, where you'll find cardio and strength equipment.
A session at Kris Hot Yoga is quite the fitness challenge. The classes are conducted in a heated room with a temperature between 95 and 104 degrees, and the instructors guide you through movements that help build core strength and balance. Classes are structured to ensure a great workout whether you're a beginner or advanced yogi. New clients can purchase three classes for just $20!
If you're a dedicated climber or just looking for an alternative way to build fitness, make the drive to Climb Iowa, the largest climbing gym in the Des Moines area. They offer both rope-assisted climbing walls and bouldering, and classes for adult beginner and intermediate climbers. Climb Iowa is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Elite Edge Gym takes a no-holds-barred approach to working out, and their trainers are experts in helping clients transform their bodies with challenging routines. Bootcamp-style workouts, which combine cardio and strength-building movements, are the hallmark of their method. They offer a free trial period for new members.
Mission Fitness offers a wide array of classes, so whether you're a fan or kickboxing, kettlebells, or yoga, you're sure to find something that appeals to you. If you only plan to drop in once in awhile, you can purchase a punch-card that's good for 10 classes over a 6-month period. Mission Fitness offers morning and evening classes, as well as memberships.
