Mothers-Day-Brunch-DM.jpgMother’s Day is just around the corner – have you decided where you’ll take yours to celebrate this big day? Our city is home to dozens of restaurants offering everything from “quick and casual” to more formal fare and settings, so there’s plenty to choose from. Here are four of our favorites to consider as you honor Mom next Sunday.

1. Americana Restaurant & Lounge
1312 Locust Street, Des Moines

If Mom loves good home cooking, take her to Americana Restaurant & Lounge on Mother's Day. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, slaw, and biscuits make for a comforting and satisfying meal. And if your mom prefers healthier fare, she might like Americana's power salads: spinach and arugula, roasted squash, toasted barley, grape tomatoes, roasted apples, and blue cheese crumbles.

2. PerKup Cafe
2700 University Ave., West Des Moines

PerKup is a perfect place for Mother's Day Brunch, especially if your mom is particular about her coffee. The coffee bar at PerKup offers all kinds of options, from cappuccino and misto to latte, mocha, and chai. If you go for Mother's Day Brunch, try the apple cinnamon French toast made with apple cinnamon bread from the Skyy Bakery, which is just next door. PerKup was Cityview runner up for best breakfast last year, so you can’t go wrong by taking mom here.

3. La Mie Bakery
841 42nd St., Des Moines

Your mom will love the menu selections at La Mie Bakery. Pastries, artisan breads, omelets, and tartines: you'll find them all at La Mie. If you’d prefer to have Mother's Day Brunch catered at your place or other location, La Mie can bring the food to you. Their catering menu features Danishes, pastries like éclairs and fresh fruit tarts, and drinks like coffee and premium orange juice.

4. John and Nick's
15970 Hickman Road, Clive

Classy and family-oriented, John and Nick's is a great place to take the whole gang. The famous salad bar with more than 60 fresh and homemade items ensures that everyone, even the pickiest eaters, can find just what they're looking for. If brunch is a little too early for your group, hit John and Nick's at dinnertime on Mother's Day. They're known for their prime rib, shrimp, scallops, and excellent desserts.
