1. Perfect Gentlemen Father's Day Parade

No city in the United States is as rich in tradition as New Orleans, and second line parades are some of the most cherished celebrations. These processions are descended from jazz funerals and named after the brass band and colorfully dressed marchers that followed the "first line" of the hearse and family members. The Father's Day parade is scheduled for June 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. Check the website for route details.

Commander's Palace has been a Big Easy landmark since 1893, and James Beard Award-winning executive chef Tory McPhail is maintaining the high standards set by iconic chefs Emeril Lagasse and Paul Prudhomme. The restaurant's legendary jazz brunch features a changing menu based on seasonal items, but typical dishes include Crawfish Boil Beignets and Creole Ham and Eggs. Entrées include starter, main dish and dessert. Father's Day hours are 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and reservations are required.

Tour the French Quarter and hear fascinating stories about the ghosts, vampires and other supernatural spirits that call the Big Easy home. Enhance the experience with the use of real paranormal equipment. Despite the tour's name, the event is family-friendly and does not go into any bars, although adults are free to stop and fill up their drink cup. The June 18 tour begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $25. Kids are free with two adult paid admission.

Share an afternoon of laughter with Dad at this musical based on the hit 1988 movie starring Steve Martin. Two conmen on the French Riviera compete to fleece a young heiress who may have some tricks of her own up her sleeve. Sunday showtime is 2:30 p.m. and tickets range from $15-$27.

Land-O-Pines' Father's Day event, held on Saturday, June 17, is a day of family fun including a tether ball tournament, flag football, and horseshoes. Evening entertainment is provided by DJ Johnny and the park's popular male drag fashion show. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Make a weekend of it by reserving a campsite, camper or cabin. Campground activities include swimming pools and a water slide, mini-golf, stocked fish ponds and white sand beaches.
