Blogs are a great way to stay on top of San Antonio's vibrant social scene, but anybody with a computer can start one, so how do you separate the good from the bad? Here are the best local blogs as recommended by members of our Springs San Antonio management teams.
This site's subtitle sums it up perfectly: "Life and Parenting in the Alamo City." After mother-of-two Colleen Pence retired her successful The Delaney Diaries blog, she searched in vain for a site that collected San Antonio mom blogs in one spot, so she created one herself. San Antonio Mom Blogs provides dozens of links to local mom-centric blogs along with information about current family events and activities, many of them free.
2. SA Flavor
As the name implies, SA Flavor started out in 2009 as a blog about San Antonio's lively food and restaurant scene, but it has since morphed to encompass the city's overall cultural "flavor." Recent topics have included the San Antonio Cocktail Conference, Alamo City Comic-Con and a review of the iconic Sea Island Shrimp House. If you think you have a unique slant on a local subject, SA Flavor accepts submissions from the community.
Tori Johnson's background in public relations and commercial styling fuels this beauty and fashion blog that's accessible to women of all ages. As the daughter of two lifelong DIYers, Italian-born Morena came to San Antonio with crafting in her DNA, and her blog is a virtual classroom where she passes her passion on to others. Some of Morena's favorite projects involve repurposing thrift shop finds and giving a facelift to favorite but worn-out possessions.
After living in a city for a while, it's easy to lose sight of what makes the area special. San Antonio Tourist takes a monthly look at a restaurant, attraction or event that goes "beyond the Alamo and the River Walk." January's post spotlighted Bracken Cave, home of the world's largest bat colony, and other entries have featured South Salado Creek Greenway, Burleson Yard Beer Garden and the Toilet Seat Art Museum.
6. Puro Pinche
Stephanie Guerre's award-winning blog is a comprehensive guide to San Antonio's "under the radar" music, art and cultural events. Puro Pinche has clued readers into local news and happenings ranging from Tim Duncan's namesake cereal to the new jazz venue at the Pearl.
