1. Slidell Heritage Festival
Heritage Park
1701 Bayou Lane
Slidell, LA

Start the Independence Day weekend off early with an evening of fun at Heritage Park on Saturday, July 2. The park will open at 4 p.m. with music by bands that include 90º West, Leroux, and The Molly Ringwalds. The entry fee is $10, with proceeds going to benefit charities that include Hero's Farewell, Slidell Ladies for Liberty, and the Boy Scouts of America. Make sure you come hungry, as there will be plenty of gyros, Cajun chicken, catfish, and shrimp to go around before the fireworks show around 9 p.m.!

2. Mandeville City Seafood Festival
Fontainebleu State Park
62883 Highway 1089
Mandeville, LA

If you're a fan of local Louisiana seafood, music, and all-around fun, head to this annual festival along the beachfront in Fountainebleu State Park. There will be carnival rides, water rides, and games for kids and adults of all ages, along with music performed by local bands. Tickets are just $20 for adults and $10 for children, and the event lasts from noon to midnight with fireworks along the water at 9 p.m.

3. Madisonville Old Fashion 4th of July Celebration
Main St
Madisonville, LA

Step back in time at this old-fashioned, family-friendly celebration along the Riverfront in Madisonville. There will be a beauty pageant, horseshoe tournament, and old-fashioned games like sack races and a watermelon eating competition. If you have some culinary skill, you can even enter your own home-baked apple pie in the apple pie baking contest. Admission to the festival is free, though there are fees for some activities, such as the horseshoe tournament. The festivities will commence at 1:00 p.m. with a parade beginning at the Maritime Museum at 2:00 p.m.

4. 4th of July Celebration on the Lake
Mandeville Lakefront

Featuring live contemporary and patriotic music by Rick Samson and Four Unplugged, this free, local Independence Day celebration along the Mandeville lakefront will last from 4 p.m. until dusk. Food and drinks prepared by local restaurants will be available for purchase, and the night will conclude with some of the area's brightest fireworks, sponsored by Chevron. This is the first annual 4th of July Celebration on the Lake, so bring some friends along to show some support!
