Sports_Teams_SWF.jpgAt first glance, Fort Myers may not seem to have much to offer in the way of sports entertainment. However, the lack of national teams is by no means a reflection of the quality of athletic talent you’ll find here. Here are five can’t-miss teams in the area you should follow:

1. Fort Myers Miracle Baseball Team

The Fort Myers Miracle play in the south division of the Florida State League and are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. The Miracle came to Fort Myers in 1992 and have since qualified for playoffs eight times, including a 3-1 championship defeat of the Daytona Cubs in 2014. The upcoming season begins in April, so be sure to get on over to Hammond Stadium for some great minor league baseball action.

2. Florida Everblades Hockey Team

The Florida Everblades are one of 28 teams competing in the ECHL. This mid-level professional hockey league has had more than 600 of its former players go on to compete in the NHL. The Florida Everblades are a popular choice for local hockey entertainment and have been in the top five for league attendance in 14 of the last 18 years. The Everblades play in Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.

3. Green Wave High School Football

If you’re looking for a local football game, don some green and white and head out to support the Green Wave from Fort Myers High School. This team ranks as the fourth most successful team in Florida high school history, with only 16 losing seasons in 96 years. You can catch their first games of the year in late August, with homecoming typically taking place at the beginning of September.

4. Florida Tarpons Indoor Football

The Florida Tarpons were part of the American Indoor Football league in 2016, but plan to play in the Arena Pro Football league in 2017. The team has had a lot of success in recent years, as they finished second during the 2014 and 2016 seasons, and first in the 2015 season. While the 2017 schedule has yet to be announced, be sure to check the team’s website.
