Whether you prefer old-school costumes like witches and pirates or trendy contemporary characters such as Jon Snow and Iron Man, there are a number of stores around your Twin Cities and Rochester apartment with everything you need. Let a visit to one of these six amazing Halloween shops spark your imagination.

1. Twin Cities Magic & Costume
2044 Robert Street S.
West St. Paul

This fascinating store has been a local fixture since 1986. In addition to the thousands of costumes and accessories in stock, they will special-order and even custom-build items on request. If you're hosting a party, pick up some spooky accessories like fog machines or simulated "fire" holders.

2. Costumes Plus
2839 White Bear Avenue
Maplewood

The slogan at Costumes Plus is, "Not just your ordinary Halloween shop!" While they have a comprehensive selection of costumes, accessories and decorations, they specialize in Renaissance and historical themes, including classic looks such as 1970s disco and 1920s gangster.

3. Spirit Halloween
Mall of America and 4 other locations

These pop-up stores are open for only a couple of months, but they spend the rest of the year scouring the country for the best assortment of Halloween finery. Spirit carries costumes for adults, couples and groups, and kids from toddlers to teens. Crank up the fear factor at your party with one of their animatronic figures like a six-foot Smoldering Zombie or a five-foot Black Widow Flaming Witch.

4. Ax-Man Surplus Store
1639 University Avenue
St. Paul

While this Twin Cities cult favorite may not appear to be a costume shop at first glance, its assortment of bizarre, unusual and fabulous items at rock-bottom prices has made it the go-to place for DIY costumes. For instance, you could create a funky disguise with a pair of German goggles, gas mask hood and lab coat for under $15.

5. Halloween Express
Miracle Mile Shopping Center
Rochester

Find your perfect costume at the place "where Halloween comes to shop." New selections for this year include a quirky series of emoticons. Couples can have fun dressing as bacon and eggs, salt and pepper shakers or the King and Queen of Hearts. Shop online in the comfort of your Springs Apartments home and your order will be waiting at the store for pick-up.

6. Custom Costumes
