Hip-hop meets classical at this creative reworking of the holiday classic. A dozen all-star dancers, a DJ and a violinist enact the story of Maria-Clara and her Nutcracker prince traveling back in time to her parents' first meeting at a club in 1980s Brooklyn. Hip-hop legend Kurtis Blow will be on hand as the special guest MC. Performances are scheduled for Tuesday, November 21 and Wednesday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $28.50 to $68.50.

3. Burnsville Winter Lighting Ceremony

Sparkling lights help to create that magical holiday ambiance. Be there when the glow goes up in Burnsville at the 19th annual Winter Lighting Ceremony. The display includes 230 streetlight snowflakes and more than 200,000 mini-lights, with a 30-foot tree as the centerpiece. Entertainment will be provided by local school choirs. The ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22.
