July 05, 2017

Fun Summer Outdoor Activities in Twin CitiesLying poolside at our Springs at Apple Valley and Springs at Egan Drive luxury apartment communities is a pleasant way to relax, but summer is also a great time for outdoor sports. Take a break from the old standbys like softball and golf and give one of these exciting activities a try.

Springs at Egan Drive

Kayaking and Paddleboarding
Cleary Lake Regional Park, 18106 Texas Ave, Prior Lake
763.694.7777
5.9 miles from Springs at Egan Drive

Kayaking and paddleboarding are unique blends of exercise and relaxation. Get a nice workout as you glide across the water enjoying the scenic views and some possible wildlife sightings. Cleary Lake has 137 acres of water along with available rentals of paddleboards and single or double kayaks. The Park District's Outdoor Recreation School offers lessons and special events such as moonlight paddleboarding.

Disc Golf
Bryant Lake Regional Park, 6800 Rowland Rd, Eden Prairie
763.559.9000
12.8 miles from Springs at Egan Drive

You don't have to be a fan of traditional golf to enjoy this updated version. The rules are similar, but instead of trying to hit a tiny ball across a great distance, you toss a frisbee-like disc toward the target. Pack a picnic lunch and spend a day with family and friends at Bryant Lake starting with a lively game of disc golf on the park's course.

Wakesurfing
SurfTonka, Lake Minnetonka, Orono
612.875.1342
33.2 miles from Springs at Egan Drive

Who says surfing is only for the Left Coast? Hit the "waves" on beautiful Lake Minnetonka for some thrilling wakesurfing. You and your board get towed behind a boat just like water-skiing, but then once you're up, drop the line and go! SurfTonka offers private and group lessons for beginners and wakesurfing sessions for more experienced riders.

Follow that with fishing, swimming, hiking, biking or a romp with Fido at the leash-free area.

Springs at Apple Valley

FootGolf
Hiawatha Golf Course, 4553 Longfellow Ave S, Minneapolis
612.724.7715
14.0 miles from Springs at Apple Valley

Are you looking for more of a cardio workout from a summer activity? FootGolf is another hybrid sport that replaces a golf ball with a soccer ball that you kick toward a 21-inch hole. Greens fee is only $14 for nine holes, so if you go with a foursome it's some of the most inexpensive fun you'll have all summer!

Log Rolling
Minneapolis Log Rolling Club, Cedar Lake East Beach, 2000 S Upton Ave, Minneapolis
18.9 miles from Springs at Apple Valley

It's not just for lumberjacks anymore! Test your balance and coordination and see how long you can keep the log rolling. When you fall, you hit refreshing water instead of hard pavement. Each Monday evening the MLRC offers 30-minute classes followed by 30-minute open sessions for only $15. After three classes you can purchase a summer pass good for open rolling and "roleos."
